PRESIDENT
Clarissa Ko

The foreignness of managed care intrigued me as I entered pharmacy school. As time passed, I realized the vast opportunities that were available within this specialty alone. With healthcare being a vital part of life and well-being, it is crucial for people to have healthcare at an affordable price. Through careful consideration of different medication therapy options, medication effectiveness, patient specific needs, and economical factors, sharing different opportunities about this broad field with others is important because it is a key player in healthcare. From guest speaker events to health fairs and hands on opportunities, we hope to share more about managed care to raise more awareness about this field.

PRESIDENT-ELECT
Andrew Thach
(andrew.thach@westernu.edu)

I chose to become a part of AMCP because I believe improving the quality and accessibility of health care to patients in the most cost effective method is an important cornerstone of Pharmacy. I felt President-Elect was a suitable position to pursue because I knew it would challenge me on every level to help me develop into the pharmacist I want to become in order to better serve my community.

VICE PRESIDENT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Allison Lee
(aulee@westernu.edu)

What drew me to Managed Care Pharmacy was how involved the field is in research. This means opportunities to appraise clinical data as well as the pharmacoeconomic impacts of various drugs. AMCP members are given opportunities for Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee site visits, informational sessions on Managed Care opportunities, and medication management events. My time with AMCP has opened my eyes to the diversity of the field as well as what we as future pharmacists can participate in to further develop Managed Care.

VICE PRESIDENT OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS
Jina Ha
(jina.ha@westernu.edu)

I have always had an interest in managed care ever since I wanted to become a pharmacist. This interest stemmed from the fact that I volunteered in an independent pharmacy, where the pharmacist ensured that her patients had the proper medication education about their prescriptions. She would have long patient consultations and phone calls with their providers in order to provide the best possible health outcome, and develop long term relationships with her patients as she was able to see the improvements in their health over time. As a result, I would also like to have some form of managed care incorporated into my pharmacy career where I can emphasize on proper medication education and impact my patient's life through consultations and developing strong patient-pharmacist relationships.

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Bhavika Patel
(bhavika.patel@westernu.edu)

One of the reasons that I am interested in being a part of AMCP is that I want to expand upon my leadership skills and contribute to the growth of this organization. I aim to gain more knowledge about the opportunities that managed care has and spread the information and passion about AMCP onto our members and prospective members and show them that the field of pharmacy is so much more than a fixed box of careers.

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATION, PUBLIC RELATIONS,
and MARKETING

Hou Su (Sarah) Chien
(hchien@westernu.edu)

After attending events hold by AMCP Western University Student Chapter, I obtain the new information regarding managed care that I did not know before. It helps me exploring different pharmacy aspects; thus, I wish more people know about this managed care through various ACMP events, official website or Facebook posts and benefit from it.

DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL PROJECTS
Tina Vo
(tina.vo@westernu.edu)

I became interested in joining AMCP because from what I know about managed care, there are multiple avenues of what it really is and can be. For the majority, not much is known about the pharmacist’s role in managed care and it is something that I wish to learn more about as a possible career choice. I want to hone in on my leadership skills and use that as a tool for informing potential members on the kind of services managed care has to offer. Direct patient care is something that I am passionate about and would like to give other students the opportunities to learn and apply their knowledge through student presentations, medication therapy management and direct patient counseling.

DIRECTOR OF MANAGED CARE EDUCATION
Allan Do
(allan.do@westernu.edu)

When I came to WesternU, one of the deciding factors in joining AMCP was when Dr. Hata talked about medication therapy management and how it is crucial in a patient’s life; determining whether or not they will end up in the hospital due to poor medication management. My ultimate goal and vision when finishing pharmacy school is to carry out medication therapy management to make sure patients are knowledgeable, compliant, and aware of any dangers new medications have as well as improve their health by being actively engaged with patients. As stated by the AMCP website,  “To empower its members to serve society by using sound medication management principles and strategies to improve health care for all” is what motivated me to join and serve as a board member for AMCP.
